A Time Well Spent
A TIME WELL SPENT, a biography of Jerome Brody by Lawrence Freundlich, details the amazing story of how one man and his handpicked team took Restaurant Associates from a failing small cafeteria chain to the highest levels of dining luxury and set the standards along which New York's present preeminence in the world of food would be guided.
At the pinnacle of Restaurant Associates glory, with the Four Seasons restaurant having become America's most influential dining establishment, on the account of vituperative divorce, Jerome Brody's in-laws, who controlled it's stock, dismissed him from Restaurant Associates, the company he had taken public.
Almost instantly Jerome Brody created a restaurant empire of his own. His Grand Central Oyster Bar and Restaurant and Gallagher's Steakhouse evolved into the successful cornerstones of an emerging franchising company. Between 1963 and 2001 Jerome Brody also campaigned and bred Champion Black Angus, Thoroughbred horses, and build a 130ft yacht which won the award for best charter yacht built.
